Happy Halloween one and all from all of us at EYEPOP-3D/Plan-D from Another Dimension. And to celebrate we're once again giving away a downloadable 3D blu-ray for you to burn at home, along with printable assets for the cover and disc label!
This year we've got the black and white feature film "The Vampire Bat 3D" for you.
The Vampire Bat (1933) is a pre-Code horror film directed by Frank R. Strayer and stars Lionel Atwill, Fay Wray, and Melvyn Douglas.
The story unfolds in a small European village gripped by terror after a series of mysterious deaths attributed to blood loss. As villagers suspect vampirism, suspicions quickly fall on a gentle but eccentric local man, played by Dwight Frye, who has a fascination with bats.
The film blends supernatural intrigue with mad science, as Atwill’s Dr. von Niemann conducts his own experiments that blur the line between science and horror.
Though not a major studio release, the film effectively uses atmosphere and shadow, reflecting the influence of German Expressionism, while capitalizing on the era’s fascination with vampires and early horror themes.
So what's the catch? Well there is none... apart from it's an imperfect conversion from an imperfect source so not one that we would consider selling. Whilst we have done some fixes to make the conversion watchable it's not been through our thorough peer review process so we're giving you this little gift "as is" and hope you'll enjoy it nevertheless. In this instance the film was converted as a test of an experimental approach to making a very quick conversion so it'll certainly be interesting to hear your feedback. Whilst it's still not quite a one click conversion it is an extremely streamlined process that has been used. We shall see what you think.
We've also got some trailers included on the disc including a brand new one that has never been seen before... and we think you're gonna like it!
For the eagle eyed of you, you'll notice we've numbered this FD02 as this is effectively FREE-D-TWO but as it contains just one full feature film we thought it best to keep it simple and name it with the films title!
In order to claim your free download you will once again have to request access via our Google Drive but please do feel free to share this .ISO & cover/disc label files with others, burn them a disc, whatever. It's free to distribute as you please as long as you don't charge for it.
PLEASE NOTE: We have to manually approve access and our drive has limits so it may take up to 24 hours to approve your access, possibly longer as I will be travelling off and on during November.
Or if a Side-by-Side version suits you better here it is on YouTube.
BEFORE YOU GO
As an aside... we've had an interesting discussion going on Facebook regarding the somewhat confusing state of affairs in our EYEPOP centric view of the 3D world - if you're interested you can read our post about it here.
