EYEPOP-3D News January 2025

Hello everyone and welcome to our roundup of what's been happening here in EYEPOP-3D World as 2025 dawns.

3 X 3D Blu-rays

We launched the year with a trio of new 3D blu-rays becoming available via our disc-on-demand partner. The titles are:

  • FD03 - SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS

Our festive season free giveaway now available for a very low price on a physical disc for those who prefer this over the download.

  • PD 12 - BLACKMAIL

Alfred Hitchcock’s Blackmail (1929) is a landmark in cinema history, celebrated as Britain’s first "talkie." The film follows Alice White, a young woman who becomes entangled in a web of guilt, crime, and manipulation. After a quarrel with her boyfriend, Frank, a Scotland Yard detective, Alice agrees to go out with a charming artist who later attempts to assault her in his studio. In self-defense, Alice stabs him with a bread knife and flees the scene. As guilt consumes her, Frank discovers her involvement in the crime, but things take a darker turn when a shady witness, Tracy, attempts to blackmail the couple. Hitchcock masterfully builds tension through shadowy cinematography, innovative sound design, and psychological nuance, crafting a gripping tale of morality and survival. The famous chase scene through the British Museum remains a testament to his visual storytelling genius.

  • PD 13 - MARX BROS. THE COCOANUTS

The Cocoanuts (1929), the Marx Brothers’ first feature film, is a riotous blend of slapstick, wordplay, and musical interludes set against the backdrop of a failing Florida hotel during a land boom.

Groucho plays the hapless hotel manager Mr. Hammer, whose get-rich-quick schemes are as flimsy as the hotel's walls. Chico and Harpo arrive as bumbling conmen, wreaking havoc with every step, whether they're stealing silverware or confounding the beleaguered detective played by Margaret Dumont. Meanwhile, a subplot involving young lovers, stolen jewels, and a devious villain weaves through the chaos.

Featuring classic Marx Brothers comedy, including the unforgettable "Why a Duck?" routine, The Cocoanuts is a madcap satire of greed, romance, and real estate that solidified the brothers’ place as legends of early sound cinema.

These titles join our entire range of Plan-D titles all available from our website.

And finally

We've got two new 3D Blu-rays which should be ready for release by Valentines Day, these are both from a new bunch of "exploitation cinema" titles that we've loosely grouped together as our "Taboo Dimensions Collection". The first two titles are "Reefer Madness 3D" and "Alien Prey 3D".

And finally, finally Phantom Planet 3D is just in the final stages, currently working on bonus content and some of the additional bits and pieces to go with the release. We anticipate the Kickstarter launching in mid to late February.

Wow that was a lot of stuff to cover... and of course I'm sure there will be even more before next month rolls around!

Keep it 3D!
