A Trio of 3D Eye Poppers!

Updated: Oct 17

The endless debate regarding whether pop-outs are a good or bad thing in 3d movies is not one that has a firm answer but I've always been keen if they fit the film and used appropriately - now you know which side of the fence I am on!

So I decided that I'd like to produce some discs, conversions and "native" that had a decent amount of pop-outs and ones that were pretty damned strong pop-outs at that! And I'm now proud to share a little background on what I'm calling my "Pop That Trilogy"!

Do remember though a good pop-out requires the right framing and set-up of the shot, this is really the only way to create optimal pop-out imagery. We can when converting get the whole image to stick out the screen but apart from causing all sorts of visual issues there wouldn't be a point in doing that - as you'll see even from just the 3 shots below framing and logic of the 3d scene is paramount to pulling off the 3d pop-out.

POP THAT #1 - THE BEST OF ENHANCED DIMENSIONS

First off, as the compilation 3D Blu-ray of my Enhanced Dimensions natively shot 3D shorts, music videos, etc had sold all the stock I thought why not pull together a "Best of.." compilation featuring the shorts but adding in my favourite Crime Squad 3D episode, a never before seen experimental conversion of my very first music video "I B Urs" as well as a BRAND NEW native 3D, 10 minute animated short called "3D Pop-Out Party"... and I'm sure you can guess from it's title what it's all about!

In a similar vein to my first little animated short, "FourPlay 3D", "3D Pop-Out Party" is a montage of 10 different little animated vignettes with EXTREME POP-OUTS; if you like your 3D to be in your face then this is one party you'll want to be part of!

POP THAT #2 - PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE 3D

Next up is a Plan-D release, an absolute classic from the Public Domain, much has been written about it's awfulness and if you haven't already seen it you really out to, and if you jump in for the ride in an appropriate mindset you'll be in for a whale of a time... oh yes... it's a brand spanking new, eyepopping conversion of "Plan 9 From Outer Space" .

There's much written erroneously about not being able to achieve pop-outs with conversion but between this one and the next in my list I think you'll be quite surprised.

Not only that, we've got an optional bonus "Intergalatic Ultratoontastic Special Edition" disc featuring the entire film in 3 different formats: Plan 9 Stereoscopic 3D Toon Style, Plan 9 Colour Toon Style (2D) plus a crazy Plan 9 2.5 D version which needs to be seen to be believed!

Plan 9 from Outer Space will be available in October 2024 from our Plan-D Webstore.

POP THAT #3 - THE PHANTOM PLANET 3D

For our pièce de résistance, our next full EYEPOP-3D feature is "The Phantom Planet" with some fab pop-outs, wonderful depth and as has become my trademark a subtle and short wash of colour at an appropriate moment.

I'm really super-pleased with how this conversion has come out, so much so that we decided to go all out and give this the full EYEPOP treatment, it would have felt inappropriate to give it less than stellar support to get it out to 3D enthusiasts!

The Phantom Planet 3D will be seeking release funding once again via Kickstarter in Q1 2025.

COMING 2025

So be prepared for some serious pop-out action as well as the usual EYEPOP-3D/PLAN-D quality standards you've come to expect.

As my good friend DeeDee DoohDah says... "Keep it 3d!"
